COLOGNE, Germany – The Ford-powered Benneton F1 Car that Michael Schumacher drove to his first Grand Prix win is set to fetch more than €8.500.000 when it goes under the hammer later this month.

The car, Benetton chassis B192-05, won the 1992 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, marking the beginning of Schumacher's record-setting total of 91 F1 race wins and 77 fastest laps.

Speaking after that maiden victory, Schumacher said: “I really can't describe it. All weekend I felt quite good, and when I was in the motorhome today, I thought I could win this race. I have to say thank you to the team… and I give this victory to the German fans.”

B192-05 is the star lot at Global Icons: Europe Online auction opening on January 23.

Yves Boitel, from Broad Arrow Auctions, said: “This is undoubtedly one of the most famous cars in F1 history. One that not only signalled the start of one of the greatest F1 careers of all time, but which also marked the end of the glorious era of manual gearboxes at the pinnacle of motorsport.”
