Capri Excels in Auto Express Rapid Charging Test

Aug 06, 2025

COLOGNE, Germany – Ford Capri came out on top in a rapid charging test carried out by UK publication Auto Express, beating competitors including BYD Seal, Citroen e-C3, Kia EV3, Renault 5, Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model-Y and VW ID.7.

The Capri, equipped with Ford’s 79kwH battery pack, was comfortably the fastest-charging car with Auto Express noting it “even exceeded the charge rate quoted by Ford”.

Auto Express assessed 10 electric vehicles at Gridserve EV charging station in Braintree, Essex, using identical 350kW chargers. According to Auto Express, Capri took less than 45 minutes to charge from nine per cent to 100 per cent.

It reported: “The charge curve of the Ford indicates a sophisticated system that’s constantly trying to optimise the charge performance against thermal limits. It's encouraging that the Capri hit its claimed charging rate for a decent amount of time, while maintaining a reasonable power all the way through the rest of the cycle.

“Towards the very end, the Capri's curve gets much steeper, but the rate of charge remains impressive, topping up from 80-100 per cent in around half the time many other models took. The Ford spent less than45 minutes plugged in altogether and left the site with a full battery.”
