Ford’s 2027 F-150 Debuts at Revived Detroit Ballfield

Sep 16, 2026

Ford’s new F-150 Carhartt and the entire 2027 F-150 lineup made their debut Tuesday night at the newly renovated, 128-year-old baseball field on Detroit’s Belle Isle, part of a transformation led by Ford and Carhartt. The field has been named Ford Community Field.

More than 600 employees and their families saw the unveiling at the Building Legends event, which came as the sun set on the state-run, 982-acre island located in the Detroit River.

In recent weeks, volunteers from both companies contributed to trash cleanup, sanding, painting, building bleachers, and other work throughout the field. The project included adding a new scoreboard, which read “1-5-0” in the line score. It is the first scoreboard in the field’s history, predating Ford Motor Company by five years. The field also now includes new custom dugouts, backstop and outfield fencing, bleachers, and the outfield grass has been improved. In all, these improvements will benefit 11,000 local kids.

Ford and Carhartt, two iconic Detroit brands known for their toughness and durability, embarked on their multiyear strategic relationship earlier this year with the reveal of the popular F-Series Super Duty Carhartt Edition.

The 2027 F-150 Carhartt , which is based on the F-150 XLT SuperCrew model, comes standard with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. On the outside, the truck resembles its Super Duty sibling, bringing a bold, rugged aesthetic to every corner of the truck, blending Carhartt-inspired design, work-ready spray-in bedliner for the cargo box, and durable interior details with the F-150 capability customers count on every day.

The interior reflects Carhartt's reputation through a durable PU Vinyl steering wheel and Carhartt-branded all-weather floor mats inspired by the material used in the company's tool bags.  The inside also includes unique seat inserts, updated door trim panels, and a center console lid. Carhartt’s signature triple stitching can also be seen in door trim panels and seats, with materials inspired by the brand.

The new F-150 Carhartt starts at $62,660 and is now available to order. The truck will be in dealerships early next year, and it will be assembled at Dearborn Truck Plant, one of multiple locations where the F-150 is produced.

Opening Night

The new 2027 Ford F-150 Carhartt Edition was one of the highlights as Ford unveiled the refurbished ballfield following a dramatic daytime display by nearly 150 drones which exploded in pyrotechnics, members of the Savannah Bananas and Tri-City Chili Peppers threw out the first pitch as part of a ceremony that included local teams, as well as Ford and Carhartt representatives.

Manufacturing Engineer Richard Brinkley, wife Angela and 5-month-old son Princeton were all decked out in Carhartt gear, including Princeton’s baby overalls, for the event. Brinkley’s grandfather worked for Ford at Rouge, and Brinkley was excited to share Tuesday’s event with his son.

“Now that I’m a part of Ford and the Ford family, it’s just cool following his footsteps,” he said. “These events are always a good, fun time. And now that I have a son, I can pass it on to another generation.”

Tuesday’s opening ceremonies also included a home run derby, hitting and fielding drills, and an opportunity to break in the new bases. Family-friendly lawn games and a bounce house were also available, while a baseball-inspired menu served as a pre-game meal for all.

The field is home to more than a dozen local organizations, including Detroit’s Cass Tech High School, Detroit’s Police Athletic League, and the Salvation Army, which play baseball, softball, and kickball there. The renovation included new dugout benches made from Ford F-150 tailgates.

F-150 Product Marketing Manager Jeff Schulz, a former collegiate baseball player, took pride in Ford’s efforts at the park. He was joined Tuesday by sons, Connor and Andy, who play travel baseball.

“As someone who grew up playing baseball, being a part of making baseball accessible to the whole community is great,” he said. “The work that we’re doing here at Belle Isle is amazing to revitalize the baseball fields that are here.”

Customer Feedback Shapes Updates

The addition of the F-150 Carhartt Edition is just one of many updates Ford is making to the F-150 for the 2027 model year. The company is upgrading the F-150 lineup, making the 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine standard, while the 5.0-liter V8 engine option is also now available across the entire range. Also, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum F-150 models are getting a more modern-looking grille and unique wheel offerings.

Ford is also making off-road capability more accessible with the new entry-level Tremor and Raptor equipment groups. These offerings trade interior features for off-road hardware and capability while coming at a lower price point than their stand-alone namesakes.

Off-roading enthusiasts aren’t the only group of outdoor-minded customers to benefit from the refresh. The new 2027 F-150 is also giving owners who haul boats, campers, and other types of trailers — research shows more than 75% of F-150 customers use their truck to tow — a break with the introduction of BlueCruise with Towing, making the pickup the first in the company’s fleet to include the updated technology. The addition comes to every BlueCruise-equipped 2027 F-150, and it is included with a BlueCruise subscription.

Each of these numerous F-150 updates reflects customer feedback, as Ford’s F-Series closes in on 50 years as America’s leader in truck sales.
