New Mustang Dark Horse SC Raises the Roof for High-Performance Convertibles

The new Mustang Dark Horse SC is no longer an only child. The supercar revealed by Ford earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show is getting a sister car: the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible. 

The cars share the same foundation, chassis, suspension, supercharged V8 engine, and engineering by the Ford Racing team, but the convertible is focused on giving customers open-air performance with 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a fast shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a specially tuned MagneRide suspension.

“Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief engineer. “But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.” 

The Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible is the first high-performance Mustang convertible from Ford Racing in more than a decade. The last such car was the 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 developed by what was then known as SVT. It featured a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 and 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque. 

With the new drop-top Mustang comes an all-new exterior color option and other colorful accents. Precision Purple has been added to the Pony car’s color palette, which will be announced in full closer to the vehicle’s launch next spring. The car will also include the option of unique brake caliper finishes and premium interior themes: Black Onyx and Space Gray. 

“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Racing. “It's just pure fun, fast, freedom.” 

The Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible will make its public debut at the 2026 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit on Friday evening. Attendees can view the car on display throughout the weekend. 

The car will be produced at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, the global home of the Ford Mustang. Pricing details will be shared closer to launch, while orders open this fall. The car is slated to arrive in dealer showrooms in spring 2027.
