A warm Thursday afternoon, an electric crowd, and high-octane football on the pitch, the Ranger Super Cup Final delivered an unforgettable celebration of passion, skill, and plant pride!
Hosted by the master of ceremonies Themba Zulu, whose boundless energy kept the crowd buzzing from start to finish, the pitch was alive with anticipation as Silverton Assembly Plant’s VOCF took on Struandale Engine Plant’s Ludwe Left Heads.
The match kicked off at 14:30 with a touching pre-game walkout as players took to the field together with children from Little Strivers, a wholesome moment that drew warm cheers from the sidelines.
Once the whistle blew, the intensity was immediate. Both sides poured everything into the opening half. Ludwe Left Heads demonstrated sharp discipline while VOCF pressed high, resulting in a thrilling, end-to-end tactical battle. Despite numerous chances, strong defensive play on both ends kept the scoreline locked at 0–0 at the halftime whistle.
During the break, the young stars from Little Strivers stole the spotlight once again, delivering an energetic dance routine that had the entire crowd on their feet and dancing along!
The second half began with renewed fire. Both teams fought tooth and nail to break the deadlock, with defensive units throwing themselves into every challenge.
The breakthrough came when Silverton VOCF’s captain, Koketso Mokwebo, broke past the defense and slotted home a sensational first goal! The sideline erupted, shifting the dynamic of the match and forcing Struandale to adjust to Silverton's unfamiliar tactical setup.
Reflecting on the match's flow afterwards, Ludwe Left Heads' Captain Ngwane Basini acknowledged the formidable opponent:
"It was a tough game because we played against experienced guys," Basini shared. "It was a good game overall, and the tactics that were used we were not familiar with, but we tried our best. The entire season was hectic, and we are looking forward to doing better next time."
Struandale rallied with fierce defensive pressure in search of an equalizer, but in the closing minutes, Captain Koketso struck again, securing his brace with a clinical second goal to seal a 2–0 victory for Silverton VOCF! At the final whistle, ecstatic spectators stormed the field in a wave of celebration, lifting and cheering their match-winning captain.
The trophy ceremony was filled with pure joy. Ford leaders Suresh Babu and Rhys Davies joined in the festivities, dancing alongside the teams to honor the dedication shown throughout the season, while energetic supporters on the sidelines were rewarded with exclusive Ford merchandise.
For Captain Koketso Mokwebo, lifting the Ranger Super Cup was about more than just the scoreboard:
"The game started difficult, but it got better as soon as we scored our first goal," Mokwebo said while reflecting on the win. "I am very proud of the team and the management. It wasn't easy, but we managed and events like this are important to keep us healthy as employees and also create a space for us to socialize."
