Empowering Future Leaders: Ford South Africa Finance Hosts Thuto Bohlale Learners for Global Community Service Day

Jun 25, 2026

On Friday, June 19, 2026, Ford South Africa’s Finance team brought the spirit of collaboration and community to life. As part of the annual Global Finance Community Service Day, the team hosted 30 top-performing learners from Thuto Bohlale Secondary School, assisting them in taking a monumental step toward their higher education dreams.

While these 30 learners have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence, the path to tertiary education is often blocked by systemic and financial hurdles. Ford South Africa and the Finance team designed this initiative to directly break down those barriers, creating a profound, life-changing impact on each of the students.

For many talented students in South Africa, the cost of university application fees is an immediate roadblock that can stall a bright future before it even begins. To ensure these 30 learners could focus entirely on their academic ambitions without financial worry, Ford South Africa generously sponsored and paid for all their university application fees. By removing this financial burden, Ford opened doors that might have otherwise remained closed, giving these students the freedom to apply to their chosen institutions.

Applying to university online can be a daunting and complex process, especially without reliable internet access or digital guidance. To bridge this gap, the Ford Security team safely transported the learners to the Ford campus, where they were welcomed into a supportive, high-tech environment.

The Finance team then rolled up their sleeves, sitting side-by-side with the students. Together, they navigated the online portals, ensuring that every document was correctly uploaded and every application for the upcoming academic year was successfully submitted. This hands-on, one-on-one collaboration turned what is often a stressful and overwhelming task into an empowering, collaborative success story.

The impact of the day extended far beyond application portals. By spending the day on the Ford campus and interacting directly with finance professionals, the 30 learners received invaluable career mentorship. They gained first-hand insight into the corporate world, discussed various career paths, and received personal encouragement from mentors who believe in their potential. This personal connection helped build the students' confidence, showing them that they belong in these professional spaces and inspiring them to reach for their highest aspirations.

Through teamwork, mentorship, and collective support, the Finance team did more than just complete paperwork—they helped pave a clear, accessible path for South Africa's next generation of leaders. We wish the 30 exceptional learners of Thuto Bohlale Secondary School the absolute best of luck with their applications and their bright futures ahead!
