Eight Years of Ford Ranger Raptor Production in Thailand: Airborne Legend Built by Thai Craftsmanship, Proven Worldwide

Jun 25, 2026
  • Born in Thailand, the high-performance pickup has grown from a niche enthusiast concept to a global benchmark of Ford Racing engineering, with production scaling sevenfold to meet rising global demand.

Rayong, Thailand, June 25, 2026 – Back in 2018, the iconic moment of a midsize pickup truck soaring through the air, completely airborne before landing flawlessly on a rugged off-road track, redefined the global pickup landscape. This was no ordinary promotional stunt; it was the world’s debut of the first-ever Ford Ranger Raptor.

Eight years later, the Ranger Raptor has transcended its niche origins to become the definitive benchmark for high-performance off-road pickups—seamlessly blending racing DNA, cutting-edge technology, and world-class engineering.

Born Tough at Ford’s Manufacturing Hub in Thailand

While designed and engineered by Ford’s highly skilled product development teams in Australia, the Ranger Raptor’s physical journey began in Thailand. On June 25, 2018, the very first production Ranger Raptor rolled off the assembly line at the state-of-the-art Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) plant in Rayong province, Thailand.

The vehicle’s immediate global success paved the way for expansion. In 2023, Ford introduced the Ranger Raptor to the North American market, launching production at its Michigan Assembly Plant in the United States. Today, FTM remains the primary global production and export hub, proudly shipping the Ranger Raptor to more than 106 countries worldwide.

From Niche Production to a Seven-Fold Increase in Demand

Conceived as a highly specialized, low-volume performance truck, initial launch plans at FTM targeted a modest production capacity. However, as the vehicle’s legendary off-road capabilities captured the market’s imagination, global demand skyrocketed.

Today, FTM has scaled production to achieve a more than seven-fold increase in capacity since its inception. Cumulative production currently stands at 251,180 units1, with the top three export markets being Australia, the Philippines, and Southern Africa. Each of these markets plays an important role in driving the global success of the Ranger Raptor as Ford enthusiasts embrace the brand spirit of Ready Set Ford through Build, Thrill and Adventure.

"The surge in production is a direct reflection of the vehicle's popularity and our team's commitment to manufacturing excellence," said Vinko Saric, FTM Operations Director. "Over the past eight years, we have continuously elevated our production quality and processes. Our post-delivery defect rate (R/1000) has continued to improve, which is a strong statement to the durability, reliability, and world-class craftsmanship built into every truck that leaves our facility."

Craftsmanship Meets Ford Racing DNA

Inside FTM, the Ranger Raptor shares a home with its Ranger models. But turning raw Ford Racing power into a vehicle you can drive takes something extraordinary. It requires a touch of true craftsmanship. That is why we use custom-made manufacturing processes, high-precision tools, and advanced technologies exclusive to the Raptor:

  • Precision Bumper-to-Fender Alignment: Beyond its aggressive stance and iconic block-letter grille, the Ranger Raptor features a meticulously engineered gap between the front bumper and the fender. This gap represents a deliberate engineering intention for high-speed off-roading— a unique design philosophy also seen in the heavy-duty Ranger Super Duty. Because these vehicles are built to endure extreme body-on-frame flex under intense conditions, this gap is precisely calculated to prevent body panels from contacting and damaging each other during hard off-road landings or heavy-duty operations. FTM utilizes high-precision alignment fixtures and expert operators to ensure perfect, symmetrical gaps on both sides.
  • Advanced Suspension Calibration: The true magic of the Ranger Raptor is how it handles the wild, and that starts with its FOX shock absorbers. At FTM, building this legendary suspension is an art of pure precision. We align the coil springs down to the millimeter, then secure them to the chassis with high-tech tools applying 550 Nm of torque—tracking every step to ensure absolute safety. To top it off, we program the truck's suspension to "breathe" with the terrain. Thanks to FOX Live Valve technology, the Raptor can feel and react to the road 500 times a second, giving drivers the ultimate confidence to go anywhere.
  • Millimeter-Perfect Watt’s Linkage Assembly: High-speed off-roading demands absolute trust in your machine. To keep you stable and comfortable through every wild turn, the Ranger Raptor uses a specialized rear suspension that glues it to the ground. At FTM, we build this trust with flawless precision, aligning the chassis and axle to perfect symmetry. We even tighten the suspension bolts while the truck is resting fully on its wheels, eliminating stress on the joints. It’s a level of care that guarantees a smooth ride and a truck that is truly built to last.
  • Dust-Free Decal Application: To guarantee a flawless exterior finish, the Ranger Raptor's signature graphic decals are applied in a strictly controlled, climate- and dust-free cleanroom. A specialized team of more than 10 experts meticulously applies and inspects each decal to ensure factory-standard perfection.

This relentless attention to detail relies on more than just advanced technology; it is driven by the specialized craftsmanship of a highly trained workforce. These experts handle the most complex assembly steps to ensure every vehicle delivers the uncompromising quality and performance demanded by the Ford Racing badge.

The Power of a 'Right-First-Time' Mindset

Behind the assembly of every high-quality vehicle at FTM is the ‘Right-First-Time,’ mindset, a commitment where every employee pays meticulous attention to detail and never overlooks any abnormality at their workstation. This prevents defects from reaching our customers and drives us toward our ultimate goal of First Run Capability (FRC)—building it right the first time without interrupting the assembly line for corrections.

“We cascade these rigorous standards across our supplier network to co-manage quality right from the source. Our plant Quality Assurance (QA) team works hand-in-hand with Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) and Product Development (PD) Engineering and Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) to provide close guidance and support. This includes conducting regular Gemba walks at supplier facilities, ensuring that every single component arriving at our production line is thoroughly inspected and absolutely flawless before being assembled and delivered to our customers worldwide,” added Saric.

Over the past eight years, the Ford Ranger Raptor has proven that a pickup truck can be much more than a workhorse. It is a highly capable lifestyle vehicle that delivers an unparalleled driving experience. This global success story is built on a foundation of precision, passion, and an unwavering commitment to quality at Ford's manufacturing home in Thailand.
