OSLO, Norway - With a record-high market share of 31 per cent, Ford became the largest commercial vehicle brand in Norway in October.
The best-selling electric van, the E-Transit Custom—equipped with all-wheel drive—accounted for more than half of the registrations and has emerged as the top sales performer this autumn.
This represents the highest commercial vehicle market share Ford Motor Norway has ever recorded for a single month in Norway. Ford has been Europe’s best-selling commercial vehicle brand for 11 consecutive years. In October, the brand also took the top spot in Norway, with 599 new registrations, according to figures from the Norwegian Road Federation (Opplysningsrådet for Veitrafikken). This marks an increase of 39.3 per cent compared to the same month last year, in a Norwegian van market that saw an overall decline of 28.8 per cent.
“These are very encouraging figures. We had high expectations for the E-Transit Custom with all-wheel drive, and now we are truly seeing the impact it has for us here in Norway. A spacious, powerful electric work vehicle with genuine off-road capability is exactly what many of our customers are looking for right now—especially with winter just around the corner,” says Asgeir Nordeng, Sales Director at Ford Motor Norway.
The last time Ford held the position of Norway’s largest commercial vehicle brand was in July of this year.
In October, 338 new E-Transit Custom vehicles were registered, compared to 106 in the same month last year. Of these, 316 were equipped with all-wheel drive. This accounts for nearly 94 per cent of the registrations and represents more than half of all new Ford commercial vehicles registered in October.
“This is a work vehicle that possesses the capacity, power, and technology to help you face the winter with confidence,” adds Nordeng. “With all-wheel drive, a towing capacity of up to 2,300 kilograms, and ample space for both cargo and equipment, the E-Transit Custom has become an even better tool for Norwegian businesses,” says Nordeng. Additionally, 111 units of the Transit Custom with a traditional powertrain were sold. In this category, too, all-wheel-drive models account for the vast majority of sales.
Ford remains Norway’s largest pickup brand so far this year. With 736 registrations through October, Ford holds a 28.1 per cent market share. The Ranger and Ranger Raptor account for a combined 508 registrations, while the all-electric F-150 Lightning accounts for 218.
"We have a long and strong tradition with pickups in Norway. With the Ranger now available as a plug-in hybrid, we have added an exciting new option—offering an even better price point for customers who need significant towing power and cargo capacity, while also having the ability to drive electrically," says Nordeng, adding that more than half of all Rangers sold so far this year have been the plug-in hybrid version.
Separately, the latest addition to the Transit family—the electric and highly affordable Transit City—is now available to order in Norway. This new 1-tonne segment van comes in three variants, including a chassis-cab version for custom bodywork.
The largest van variant features a cargo space of 8.5 cubic meters and a net payload capacity of up to 1,200 kilograms.
"The Transit City gives us even more to offer. It is an affordable, robust electric workhorse for businesses that need ample cargo space while keeping costs down. It is available to order now, and we are confident that it will help further strengthen Ford’s market share in the commercial vehicle segment in Norway," Nordeng explains.
