Designed for Family, Refined by Simplicity: The New Ford Edge L

Oct 19, 2026

The new Ford Edge L, designed by Ford China Design Center, strengthens the model’s family-oriented character through a design language that combines a more commanding exterior presence with a warmer, more sophisticated interior. Responding to changing customer expectations and a competitive landscape, Ford’s designers focused on simplifying the vehicle’s visual language while elevating its sense of quality, comfort and craftsmanship.

At the front, a more upright and architectural fascia creates a stronger stance. The new grille has more structured proportions, while its pattern has been developed to harmonize with the lighting signature rather than appearing as a separate element. The signature tri-bar daytime running lights blend directly into the grille architecture, creating a single continuous graphic. The treatment also establishes a visual connection with Ford models including the new Explorer and Mondeo, strengthening the evolving Ford family identity.

The lower fascia emphasizes the vehicle’s width through strong horizontal graphics, balancing the upright character of the front end and reinforcing its stable, planted stance.

Along the body, the Edge L retains the strong proportions. Cleaner surfacing creates a more seamless transition between the redesigned front and rear, while carefully integrated brightwork adds a premium accent without interrupting the simplified body architecture.

The rear follows the same design direction, with strong horizontal graphics being used again to reduce visual mass and emphasize width, while a cleaner tailgate allows the lighting signature to become more prominent. An all-new full-width taillight design spans the rear, with an illuminated “EDGE” lettering positioned at the center to visually connect the two lamp clusters into a single, continuous graphic. Refined technical detailing within the rear lamps reinforces the character established at the front, while the reduced lower bumper mass creates a more uplifted appearance, complemented by subtle brightwork detailing.

The exterior color palette adds a further touch of brilliance to the design. Terrestrial Bronze joins the Edge L palette as hero color. Its rich optical layering gives the color a subtle sense of movement: in bright light it glows as a radiant champagne gold, while in shadow it shifts to a warm rose-gold tone. The color suits modern tastes and conveys a premium quality. Developed exclusively for the Chinese market, Gemstone Blue makes its debut on the new Ford Edge L. Its deep hue creates pronounced, rhythmic play between light and shadow across the body, while jewel-like highlights bring out the sculptural quality of the surfaces. The result is a distinctive finish that gives the Edge L a richer, more luxurious visual character.

The new Edge L is also available in Agate Black, White Platinum 3C and Lustrous Grey.

As the door opens, a welcome light projecting the Edge L’s logo illuminates the ground, adding a sense of ceremony to the moment of entry. Inside, the Edge L moves toward a more sophisticated interpretation of modernity, balancing its large digital interface with greater warmth, comfort and tactile quality.

The instrument panel receives a cleaner treatment, with larger soft-wrapped surfaces replacing some of the visual complexity of the previous design. The large screen retains the Edge L’s technology-forward character, while reduced hard horizontal lines and delicate contrasts between soft materials and satin metallic bezels create a more refined environment.

This approach continues into the doors, where the instrument panel’s soft-wrapped surfaces flow visually to create a more pronounced feeling of comfort and enclosure. Simpler sections reduce the presence of hard plastic, with the same satin metallic accents from the instrument panel introducing contrast and craftsmanship while maintaining greater physical continuity.

The center console combines clean surfaces with clearly defined functions, making everyday features easier to access. An open phone holder receives precise detailing, while a 50W fast wireless charging pad positioned to the driver’s side provides convenient access for the driver.

The seats have also received a major refresh. Upgraded materials and a fuller, softer construction reinforce comfort and support, while an all-new stitching design combines a classic diamond-quilt pattern with a modern gradient treatment. Precision-positioned stitching and perforation create a more intricate visual expression, with gradient perforations on the seat bolsters helping to visually extend the perceived width of the seats.

The shoulder area incorporates suede, adding another layer of tactile richness. Together with the stitching, perforation and carefully refined material transitions, it creates a more sophisticated and crafted appearance.

The second-row captain’s seats are upgraded to near-zero-gravity seats reclining up to 124 degrees to deliver a comfortable ride. The seat retains and refines as well one of the Edge L’s most thoughtful signature features:: an integrated cupholder and phone holder built into the armrest, now paired with a USB-C port beneath the phone slot for convenient charging. The armrest can also rotate to allow easier access to the third row. As always design's target is to elevate the customer's experience, enhancing practicality and craftsmanship throughout the cabin, maintaining functionality while keeping on refining the visual appearance.

Interior color and material combinations provide further opportunities for personalization. The Trend trim, themed “Happy Moment” and Ambiente trim, themed “My Time” are offered exclusively with dark interiors for a timeless, classic appearance. The Titanium trim, themed “Understated Beauty” is available in both black and light-tone environments.

The light interior uses brighter tones to create a sense of openness and space, complemented by suede accents and silk chrome detailing that introduce warmth and a subtle jewelry-like quality. The black interior takes a different approach, combining matte finishes, layered materials, fine PU and soft suede to create a luxurious yet bold atmosphere. Matte silk chrome provides a subtle contrast, balancing the darker environment with a sense of refinement.

The new Edge L brings together a more distinctive exterior, a warmer interior and a greater emphasis on craftsmanship in the details. Clean architectural forms and integrated graphics give the exterior a stronger visual identity, while the redesigned cabin combines digital technology with soft materials, refined finishes and intuitive functionality. From the new exterior colors to the carefully developed seat quilting and perforation, every element contributes to a more sophisticated interpretation of the Edge L. The result is a modern family SUV that expresses its character through the balance of strength, elegance, comfort and thoughtful design.
