Video: What Happens When You Crash Test Two Ford Explorers

Aug 05, 2025

COLOGNE, Germany – Ford’s all-electric Explorer has earned a maximum Five-Star rating from industry vehicle safety experts Euro NCAP, but how does it perform in an actual collision?

To demonstrate just how safe Explorer really is, Ford invited content creators to the Company’s crash test laboratory in Merkenich to witness not one test, but two – a head on collision into a solid barrier at and a side-impact collision.

Check out the video to see what happened, which includes slow-motion footage of the impacts, plus in-car views of the crash test dummies.

According to Euro NCAP, Explorer scores 89 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection, 86 per cent for Child Occupant Protection, 80 per cent for Vulnerable Road Users Protection, and 72 per cent for its Safety Assist features. Capri is also rated the same by Euro NCAP.

Explorer’s advanced driver assistance systems include, for the first time in Europe, Assisted Lane Change for smoothly and safely changing lanes at the push of an indicator stalk, and Clear Exit Assist that provides warnings of approaching cyclists before opening doors in busy city centres.
