For over a decade, Ford's "Video Classroom" has connected students from rural areas with Ford volunteers, giving them a window to the world. This summer, a long-awaited reunion took place in Shanghai for the "From Henan to Shanghai, A Dream Trip" summer camp.
16 students from Henan and 29 Ford volunteers met in Shanghai. This was more than a trip; it was a warm, two-way journey from virtual screens to real-life hugs, turning distant companionship into a close friendship.
The Journey
A typhoon on their first day didn't stop the students. Guided by volunteers, they had a unique indoor experience painting traditional Chinese lacquer fans. The next day was a magical trip to Shanghai Disneyland, where their shyness quickly faded with laughter and rides.
On the third day, the students got an inside look at Ford China’s Design Center. They explored automotive history and tried their hands at car design. At the Ford China Design Center, they saw how ideas become reality through clay modeling, VR, and painting sessions
That evening, they saw the stunning Shanghai skyline from The Bund, sparking new ideas about their own futures.
At a local Ford dealership, they learned about car maintenance and even experienced the thrill of a Mustang.
The camp’s final stop was a university campus. On August 3, the students visited Fudan University and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
It was their first time on a university campus, and the academic atmosphere planted a seed of hope, making their dreams of higher education feel more tangible.
Lasting Impact
In just five days, a powerful bond was formed. For the students, the camp lit up a new path. For the volunteers, the children's bright smiles and determined eyes were a source of deep inspiration.
This commitment is at the heart of Ford’s social responsibility: the belief that every act of sincere companionship is powerful, and every small dream deserves to be seen.
The summer camp has ended, but the story of love and dreams has just begun.
