COLOGNE, Germany – Ford delivered an impressive 1.7-million Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates to customers in Europe in the first half of 2025.
The first OTA update was introduced on Mustang Mach-E back in June 2021 and now these product-enhancing improvements can be delivered to all latest generation Ford passenger vehicles and vans.
Peter Geffers, Manager EU Model e Connected Vehicle Software, told @Ford: “Our OTA business has picked up significantly since 2021. In fact, we’ve done 1.7 million OTAs in the first half of 2025 alone, including finally delivering BlueCruise to our 2021-2022 MY Mach E customers.
“We’ll be hitting the 5 million OTA mark later this year with significant warranty cost savings and increased customer satisfaction as well as feature offerings including BlueCruise, Karaoke, etc.”
The beauty with OTA is that it allows Ford to wirelessly deliver quality enhancements and new features without the customer needing to visit a dealer.
Most OTAs are delivered at the push of a button and because the download happens in the background without the customer noticing, it really couldn’t be simpler.
Peter adds: “It’s quite a feeling when we actually hit the button and you know that so many customers are going to benefit. We also have so called drive inhibit updates, which the customer needs to schedule in the HMI, as the vehicle is inoperative for the time of the update. This method is used for example with powertrain updates where the update can’t be downloaded while the vehicle is driven.”
