Ford Rangers Take on New Role as Road Inspectors in The Netherlands

Nov 12, 2025

AMSTELVEEN, Netherlands – Ford Ranger is set to become an even more familiar sight on Dutch roads after winning a tender to supply more than 200 pickups to Rijkswaterstaat - the Dutch Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management.

The new Rangers will be used by Rijkswaterstaat’s road inspectors to help ensure safety, traffic flow, and provide emergency assistance on highways and national roads throughout the Netherlands, and the first ten units were officially handed over last week

Rijkswaterstaat specifically selected the Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab, which combines power with comfort and functionality – qualities essential for the road authority's demanding work. The SuperCab configuration combines additional storage space behind the front seats with a practical cargo bed that accommodates the extensive equipment road inspectors carry daily to help with removing objects from roads, assisting with breakdowns or accidents, and also securing roads to enable emergency barrier repair work to be carried out.

The vehicles will be supplied to Rijkswaterstaat by Ford Wassink, an official Ford dealer and fleet partner. Ford Wassink is closely involved in the design and delivery of the Rangers, ensuring that each vehicle fully meets Rijkswaterstaat's operational needs. The distinctive yellow vehicles will be phased into service in the coming months at support locations throughout the country.

"We are proud that Rijkswaterstaat has chosen Ford," explains Wietze Zijlstra, Fleet Key Account Manager at Ford Netherlands. "The Ford Ranger is not only the best-selling pickup in Europe, but also a vehicle that has proven itself time and again in reliability and versatility. This makes it ideally suited for the crucial task of roadside inspectors who keep our highways safe every day."
