Jody Meyers is one proud mom. The team member at Michigan Assembly Plant recently visited Nashville with her son, David, to audition for American Idol.

“(David) always loved music, but we didn’t realize he could sing until a few years ago,” she said. “He started singing a few years ago and has since had vocal training and started a band. He has an awesome band (called David Fio & Company) that plays and writes most of their own music besides the occasional cover song.”

David’s journey to "American Idol" was quite serendipitous. He was sent a link to audition for the competition by a family member. After submitting a clip of him performing, he was asked to participate in a virtual audition with the show’s producers. All of which led to an invitation to attend in-person auditions in Nashville with celebrity judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

All I have ever wanted is for them to spend their life making money doing what they love. The sky is the limit!

“The process of the audition was awesome,” Jody said. “(Producers) kept us there for the day doing interviews and several takes doing different things on camera.”

Meyers said both David and his younger brother, Nick, are dream chasers, and she has always encouraged them to follow their dreams.
