For Quang Bui Huy, life is being of service to others – at work, at home, in the community and to his beautiful home country of Vietnam.
As the parts supply and logistics (PS&L) manager for Vietnam and Philippines, Quang makes sure that Ford dealers in these countries get the parts they need to take care of customers and their Ford vehicles.
“My job is to help dealers fix and maintain customers’ cars, so they can build experiences of their life, together with their car," Quang said.
"A vehicle is really important because it helps parents go to work and to take care their family,” he said. “Sometimes a car is like a friend of kids. Sometimes it is a protector. Sometimes it is a part of adult jobs. Sometimes it takes the family a beautiful journey and creates memorable experiences.”
When not at work, Quang creates memories for himself and his family, including watersports in the summer, camping and trekking in fall and winter and off-roading in the spring – all experiences he didn’t have growing up.
He bought his first motorbike when he was at university and rode it all over the country.
“In three to five years, with many small trips, I visited all provinces in Vietnam. I met a lot of people in many cultures. I saw how beautiful Vietnam was and how lovely the Vietnamese people were.”
Along the way, he learned the skills of riding off-road, camping, using maps, acquainting himself with the people, the culture and the ambience. Today, he continues to discover the country and the people, revisiting the areas he saw before and seeing how much Vietnam has changed in the last 30 years.
One major change is the rapid expansion of the automotive market. Ford’s market share in Vietnam is more than 10 percent, which is over 40,000 vehicles per year.
“Vietnamese people now are well educated and living in style, but we care for others and the community,” he said. “Yes, so many people still need help. They live in more remote areas. But now we have roads to get there. It is much better than before.”
Helping these people and others is how Quang works to serve his community and country. He is vice president of the Pickup Vietnam Club, which is the largest pick-up truck owners club in the country.
“We discover together, we play together. We build up our capability, and we use that capability and our skills to help the community when needed,” he said.
For example, flooding occurs every year in different areas of Vietnam. Oftentimes, people cannot evacuate in time – they become isolated and need help.
Quang and other Ranger club members often drive their Rangers hundreds of kilometers to help. They tow in boats, which they use to bring in food and medicine, take injured people to hospitals and rescue people stranded by all the water.
“We also carry material to support children in the furthest area and help them to come to school to change their future,” he said.
While much has changed in the country in 30 years, what hasn’t changed is the beauty, history and diverse culture of Vietnam, he said.
And just as his Ranger helps him contribute and create memorable experiences, it also symbolizes freedom to explore this beautiful country. His personal motto sums that up well: “No matter who you are, your age, your gender, leave your troubles behind, get in your car, hit the road and hit the trail.”
