MADRID, Spain - Ford has become the first car manufacturer to receive governmental approval to introduce hands-free driving with eyes on the road on Spanish motorways.

Following successful launches in Great Britain and Germany, Spain is the third European market to sanction Ford’s BlueCruise system which enables users to drive hands-free on motorways with designated Blue Zones.

The announcement means that people who take delivery of a Mustang Mach-E from October 12 onwards, can trial BlueCriuse for free for 90 days within their first year of ownerships. They then have the option to pay a 24.99 euros per month subscription fee.

Spain has 28,500 kilometers of Blue Zone motorways. Ford’s BlueCruise technology been tested over more than 1.1 million kilometers worldwide and has been fine-tuned to deliver an intuitive and safe experience.

"We are very satisfied with the approval of this technology from Ford, BlueCruise,” said Francisco Blanco, Secretary General of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises.

"It comes thanks to the research, the desire and the innovation effort of Ford, and also thanks to the collaboration of the Government of Spain; both the General Directorate of Traffic, and the Ministry of Industry.”

Jesus Alonso, president and CEO of Ford Spain, told @Ford: “This is another milestone in Ford’s strong commitment to cutting-edge technology and safety. After becoming the first car manufacturer to introduce 'hands-free, sight-on-the-road' driving technology in Europe, now we are again pioneering the development of advanced assistive driving technologies, becoming the first manufacturer to obtain approval to introduce this system of assistance to driving on motorways and motorways in Spain.”
