Team rises to challenge, raises $474K for United Way during pandemic
When it comes to helping the community at large, not even a pandemic can stop the determination and generosity of the Ford Windsor Team.
Today, it was announced that $474,381 had been raised during its 2020 United Way campaign. Foregoing the usual in-person media event for safety measures, the reveal was instead held over teleconference via video presentation to a select number of Ford of Canada leadership members.
A number of canvassers and United Way officials admitted that this past campaign almost didn’t happen because of COVID-19. Ultimately, however, the needs of the community and desire to help on behalf of the combined Ford Windsor Operations, Unifor Locals 200 and 240, Leadec Industrial Services and Penske Logistics Canada squad ultimately outweighed the obstacles.
“The Ford Windsor Team knew how important this year’s campaign was and was determined not to let the pandemic stop us. While challenged to alter many of our usual fundraising methods for safety reasons, this nonetheless led to a number of innovative approaches that will surely become part of our regular course of action as we move forward in future campaigns,” said Tom Reeber, Site Manager, Ford Windsor Operations, referring to options such as the online 50-50 draws and greater social media exposure.
“What we were able to accomplish this year while working together in these circumstances is nothing short of amazing.”
The monies raised will ultimately help aid thousands of Windsor and Essex-area families, many of whom have greater need than ever before given the fallout of the ongoing pandemic.
“The pride felt by our membership in helping our community has never been greater than during this campaign,” said John D’Agnolo, President of Unifor Local 200. “The pandemic made things more challenging, but we knew the community was counting on us to deliver more than ever before. Thank you to every one of our canvassers as well as everyone who contributed to this year’s campaign.”
Ford of Canada is proud to have played an active role in the Windsor-area since 1904. Over the course of the last 70-plus years in conjunction with the United Way, it has raised more than 50-million dollars.
