On Sunday, June 10, UAW-Ford Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP) held its 19th annual golf scramble at Covered Bridge Golf Club raising money for juvenile diabetes research.
This year 264 golfers participated in the scramble with support coming from KTP suppliers, partners, local businesses and over 50 KTP volunteers. This year the event raised $70,000 with proceeds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The first flight started their morning with a hearty breakfast before hitting the course. Both first and second flights of golfers and volunteers were treated to a hot lunch including fried chicken and a host of side dishes. Throughout the day, hotdogs, brats, BBQ sandwiches, chips, drinks and frozen lemonade were served on the patio for all to enjoy. Doug Needham from Focal Point was on hand at hole #2 with his world famous (or at least KTP famous) BBQ sandwiches and “slaw” dogs.
The weather was perfect for the AM flight but unfortunately turned stormy in the afternoon and the scramble was called off after four holes. The afternoon participants were entered in a blind draw for placement and gift certificates to the pro-shop. In addition all afternoon participants were given a free round of golf at the Covered Bridge Gold Club to be used whenever they wanted.
The event included various contests including a hole-in-one contest where participants could win a lease on one of three new Ford vehicles; unfortunately no one managed to come up with a hole-in-one this year.
