On 11, 12,13 December 2019 the Dearborn Fire Department Technical Rescue Team conducted Rope Rescue Technician Certification training in conjunction with Spec Rescue International. 16 firefighters were certified in High Angle High Heights Rope Rescue at the Dearborn Tool and Die plant located in the Rouge Complex.
The Rouge Complex provided the Dearborn Fire Department Technical Rescue Team (DFD TRT) with an unparallel opportunity to train local firefighters in realistic conditions should they be called to assist the Ford Motor Company Tool and Die Emergency Response Team with an emergency.
Dearborn Tool and Die Plant manager, Jeff Wagner, along with his management team, allowed the DFD TRT to utilize a section of the plant so firefighters could conduct rope access and rope rescue skills. DFD TRT was able to train using both traditional and advanced, dual tensioned rope systems.
DFD TRT conducted rappelling for rescue, rescuing suspended victims, utilizing artificial High Directional anchors, rescuing victims from high heights using litters, and tension diagonal rope systems. In addition, the plant provided the DFD TRT the ability to conduct this training indoors with a break room and bathroom facilities that were essential to the overall success of the class.
The Special Rescue instructors, Jon Rigolo and Corey Keepers, mentioned how impressed they were with the facility and support both the DFD TRT and Spec Rescue received from Dearborn Tool & Die Plant.
