Despite the overall industry being 25% down year on year, Ford New Zealand posted its best Ranger sales performance of the year in August, surprising industry media. The Ford Ranger outsold its nearest competitor the Toyota Hilux nearly 2 to 1 and finished the month with an impressive 35% segment share.
The Ranger, with year to date 25.6% segment share, is currently in its 6th year as overall top selling vehicle in the country. Along with strong Ford Transit sales year to date, Ford is also maintaining and building on its position as the market’s number one brand in light commercial for the third year in a row. Both titles were previously held by Toyota.
“It’s a great result for the team and dealer network, especially considering the extremely challenging circumstances we’ve been dealing with like so many other countries,” said Simon Rutherford, Managing Director, Ford New Zealand. “It speaks volumes to the teamwork in getting it done but also the continued improvement in design, capability and customer value of the Ford Ranger.”
The new vehicle industry was down 15 per cent year on year in August but off the lows of previous months, showing signs of a recovery following the country’s two COVID lockdowns this year.
