Ford Fund Contributes to Disaster Relief Efforts in South Africa

Ford Motor Company Fund is responding to the devastating fires in South Africa with a (US) $30,000 grant to the Salvation Army of South Africa. More than two dozen fast-moving wildfires broke out last week along the country’s famous Garden Route, killing at least nine people and forcing the evacuation of 10,000 people from the coastal town Knysna. A disaster has been declared for the area, where more than 800 structures, including schools and a hospital, have been damaged or destroyed. It’s unclear how the fires started, but stormy weather and strong winds fanned the flames and made the situation worse. Dozens of emergency centers have been set up to assist residents who were chased from their homes by the fires.
