Talking about the Latest on Ford GT with Raj Nair, Executive Vice President, Product Development, and Chief Technical Officer:

It’s been a very busy and exciting year for Ford Performance and the all-new Ford GT, hasn’t it? It has been an amazing year for the team. Winning at Le Mans was such an incredible achievement for the Ford GT, our partners and Ford fans around the world – it was a clear proof point of the innovation and technical prowess of the people who work at Ford and our partners to build a race car and win our first time back. We also created a lot of buzz when we opened the Ford GT application process and the website configurator allowing consumers their first chance to build the Ford GT of their dreams.

Were you surprised that so many people applied to be considered to purchase a New Ford GT? We were very humbled to receive over 6,500 applications for an order bank of only 500 Ford GTs, reflecting the excitement and passion around this all-new Ford supercar.

What has the reaction been to the Ford GT application letters that were recently sent out? With production limited to 250 units per year, the Ford GT will be one of the rarest Ford products ever, and we tried to be as gracious as we could to our loyal Ford customers. As a gesture of our appreciation for Ford enthusiasts, 87% of the selected applicants are existing Ford vehicle owners and 69% own a previous generation Ford GT. We created a distribution strategy in an effort to be as fair as possible and are working on a plan that will allow us to make even more deserving applicants happy. Stay tuned.

What role do Ford dealers play in this process? When applying for the opportunity to purchase a Ford GT, applicants were asked to identify their preferred Ford dealership. Successful applicants will now be contacted by a Ford Concierge representative to begin their ownership journey which will include the purchase of their vehicle from their preferred dealer.  We understand Ford GT customers are strong ambassadors for Ford Motor Company, and we look forward to providing them a service as distinct as the car itself.

What’s next? Well, we have a race season to successfully complete and we are excited by the momentum from not only winning at Le Mans but also winning at Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, and Mosport. We are focused on launching the road car later this year, and we know we have some customers who are excited about that!
