HANOI, Vietnam — When the Ford Escape boasted fuel efficiency of 8.2 L/100 km (12.2 km/l) during a test last year, many fans were surprised by the impressive numbers. Now, the SUV has gone even further.
Otofun, the biggest auto forum in northern Vietnam, recently held a fuel trip from Hanoi to Do Son, Hai Phong city with a Ford Escape 2.3 XLS 2009 to challenge last year’s record set by Ford Vietnam, arguing the Escape could achieve 8.0 L/100km.
"Before the trip, there was an increasing conversation on Otofun forum about the fuel record that Ford Vietnam achieved last December with the Ford Escape. Forty-five percent of forum members doubted the figure while the rest of the fans believed that it could even do better,” said Nguyen Tuan Khoi, an Otofun member who helped conduct the latest fuel trip along with another member, Ngoc Phan, who drove the SUV.
The 250 kilometre challenge included both highway and city driving. The gas tank on the Escape was filled and sealed shut at the starting point in Hanoi, and the air conditioning was switched off during the trip.
The result: the team set a new record of 7.21 L/100 km (13.87 km/l).
“The final result was really impressive, pleasing all the Ford Escape fans in the forum,” said Nguyen Tuan Khoi..
The fuel trip again reinforced Ford’s commitment to providing vehicles that are segment leaders in fuel efficiency and created a sharp increase in conversations and engagement about Ford cars on one of the biggest auto forums in Vietnam.
