VALENCIA, Spain – Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain has celebrated the production of its 11 millionth vehicle, a Transit Connect destined for the USA.
The highly flexible plant was officially opened on October 25, 1976 by King Juan Carlos 1. Today, it is Ford of Europe’s most diversified manufacturing operation, producing five different models.
José Manuel Machado, president of Ford Spain, said the achievement was a source of great pride, and added that the impressive vehicles produced in the plant were winning customers around the world.
The plant currently operates three production shifts producing the Kuga, C –MAX and Grand C -MAX, Tourneo Connect and Transit Connect. The models are exported to 70 countries worldwide.
With over 300 different body options, the new Connect range is the more complex vehicle Valencia has made in its 37 year history.
In 2011, Ford announced it would invest £1.1 billion in its Valencia operations – the largest investment ever in the Spanish automotive industry.
