LONDON - The Transit Custom has been named What Van? magazine’s Van of the Year for 2014, making history as the only model to win the prestigious title two years running.
And the Transit Custom was not Ford’s only success, the Fiesta Van overhauled its arch rival, the Vauxhall Corsavan, to capture the What Van? Small Van of the Year Award for 2014 and the Ranger retained the Pick-up of the Year Award for a second consecutive year.
Ensuring that Ford dominated the important UK awards event, the Transit Custom received a second award, being named as Medium Van of the Year 2014.
Judges praised the Transit Custom for its interior quality, innovation, styling, equipment and driving experience.
Ford’s director of fleet operations Phil Hollins collected the award from What Van? editor Paul Barker and awards sponsor Leaseplan’s Mark Lovett at the awards event, held in Kensington, London yesterday.
“It was a difficult decision to break with tradition and give our biggest award to a van that was victorious the previous year, but the Transit Custom’s impact on the light commercial vehicle market means the success is warranted,” said Paul Barker. “It’s been a deservedly successful first year for the Transit Custom, a vehicle that has moved the sector on in a whole series of ways.”
