The Philippines -- The final leg of the three-part Ford Focus-TRS Race of Champions Media Cup came to an exciting end on November 7 at the Subic International Raceway, with Team UNO walking away with the championship title.
“Ford congratulates Team UNO and the other five teams who made it to Subic. We are happy to see Ford’s racing heritage alive and well in the local motorsport scene, evidenced in the friendly competition and close camaraderie we saw throughout the Race of Champions Media Cup,” said Steven Tan, vice president for Marketing and Sales, Ford Group Philippines (FGP).
The three-part introduction-to-racing series was developed in conjunction with Tuason Racing School (TRS). Each leg combined instructional sessions and hands-on driving exercises before the actual race heats, giving even amateur participants a full racing experience.
Powering up the Ford Focus Race of Champions Media Cup was the Ford Focus TDCi – the first diesel-fed vehicle to hit the track in the Philippines. The Ford Focus TDCi is a revolutionary race car that runs on turbo-diesel common-rail direct-injection (TDCi), delivering an exceptional peak torque of 340Nm and a unique transient overboost feature for excellent performance response.
“The Ford technology behind Focus TDCi’s winning combination of acceleration, handling and braking capability is what we call ‘street to track’ innovation. It equates to superior technical capability and a dynamic nature that stands testament to our desire to make cars that are the exception to a dull and drab everyday commute, bringing excitement back to driving,” said Tan.
The Ford Focus-TRS Race of Champions Media Cup kicked off in August 8 at Alabang Town Centre with fourteen teams representing various media outlets. Slalom-type racing then took centre stage at the second round on September 12 in Greenhills.
Teams were ranked at the end of each leg based on combined best individual driver times and given points based on their rankings. Points were summed up at the end of the two legs to determine the teams with the highest accumulated points. Only the top six teams qualified for the final course in Subic.
The UNO magazine team of Christopher Kho and Mikko David walked away with the top prize in Subic, followed by the Speed TV/Turbo Time tag team of Mike Potenciano and Rocky Marte. In third place was Team Philippine Star/Manila Bulletin, represented by Jeff Reyes and Aris Ilagan.
