LITTLEHAMPTON, England – Ford-supported Team Aon is to enter the 2012 World Touring Car Championship with two of its new specification Focus race cars. Young British racers Tom Chilton and James Nash will drive for the Littlehampton-based team, in a step up for both of them, following successful campaigns in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
Ford's support to Team AON is in providing data, advanced engineering tools, state-of-the-art testing facilities and production parts to develop common technical specifications. All touring car activities involving the new Focus in Europe are funded and run on a private basis with only technical support from Ford.
Chilton and Nashwill drive newly-developed versions of Team Aon’s race winning Focus powered by Mountune built 1.6 litre turbocharged engines, with revised suspension components and bodywork to comply with the WTCC regulations.
The team has already completed a shakedown of the new car will now move on to Guadix and Estoril for two further test sessions later this month.
The first race weekend of the World Touring Car Championship gets underway at Monza on the 9th/10th/11th March.
