PRETORIA, South Africa —Team Ford Racing continued to demonstrate its consistent pace at this weekend’s Sun City round of the Donaldson Cross Country championship. Chris Visser and Japie Badenhorst secured the team’s fifth successive podium finish, followed to the line by Lance Woolridge and Ward Huxtable.
The Sun City 400 was characterised by its fast pace and dry, dusty conditions. Visser and Badenhorst had a near-trouble free run on route to third place. They were headed briefly by teammates Woolridge and Huxtable in the other Ford Ranger when but were able to recover in order to claim the final podium slot.
“The race took a while to get started because of a dispute with a landowner but once it got underway, the pace was extremely fast. The first four vehicles were separated by less than a minute for most of the race. Overall it was a great event and we had a great run,” commented Visser.
Teammates Lance Woolridge and Ward Huxtable were equally upbeat after the event. Having had a string of misfortunes on recent outings their consistent pace was heartening.
“Lance and Ward haven’t had the best luck of late. They had such a good start to the season and then things seemed to go a bit awry, but this weekend things got back on track and we were really happy with their fourth place,” said team manager, Neil Woolridge.
Team Ford Racing Manager, John Nagel, reiterated the healthy state of the sport that is evident in the closely fought title battle. “Obviously a win would have been preferable to keep Chris ahead in the championship but it only makes for a more exciting end to the season, which will likely see the championship decided at the final round.”
With just three rounds remaining tensions will be high in the closing stages of the season. There is a six-week break ahead of the next event in Vryburg on 6 and 7 September. This will give teams time to work on preparing the vehicles for what is sure to be another titanic battle.
Team Ford Racing’s efforts would not be possible without the support of its dedicated sponsors: Time Freight, Castrol, Dynotherm, Motorvia, Sign Solutions and Tiger Wheel & Tyre.
