SharePoint Tips & Tricks: Move Documents from SharePoint to SharePoint

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

What:
I’ve received questions from many colleagues on how to move documents from a SharePoint site to be decommissioned to a newly established SharePoint site. Here is a little trick to make it a piece of cake with the use of Windows Explorer.
How:
Before you start moving documents, you will need to have appropraite permission,
that is, at least “Contribute” permission level to perform these actions. For details on
your permission level in the SharePoint sites, please check with the site administrator.

Step 1:
Select the Files / Folders to Move

1) Open the Sharepoint Site that contains the files/folders you want to move.
2) Navigate to the location of the file(s)/folder(s) to be moved.
3) Click on the Library tab.

4) Click on Open with Explorer.

Step 2: Select Where to Move the Files / Folders
1) Open the SharePoint Site that is the location where you want to move the files/folders.
2) Navigate to the location where you will be moving the file(s)/folder(s)
3) Click on the Library tab.
4) Click on Open with Explorer.
Step 3: Drag the Files / Folders to the SharePoint Site
1)    Arrange the open Explorer windows to see the files/folders to move and where you will move them.
2)    Select the file(s)/folder(s) to move from the Explorer window.
3)    Drag the file(s)/folder(s) to the desired SharePoint site Explorer window.
4)    Drop the file(s)/folder(s).
5)    Ensure the file(s)/folder(s) were moved.
