ANGOLA – An annual event to boost tourism in Angola got an assist again from Ford’s dealer there and the Ford Ranger.
The Robert Hudson dealership returned as an official sponsor of the seventh Raid Kwanza Sul, which began in Luanda and traveled through multiple provinces in late October.
The dealership provided 16 Ford Rangers to enable the participants to travel even the most difficult paths and to demonstrate the Ranger’s ability. The raid is tied into tourism and originally involved a desire to visit a territory that had been closed to the outside world for years because of the Angolan Civil War. The event’s purpose is to publicize the inland of Angola and its history.
Among those participating in the invitation-only event are local government officials from Kwanza Sul and Portugal’s Almada province.
This year, the raid was designed to discover Enclave do Cozombo, in the far east corner of Angola. “It is a very little-known territory that will only now be open to the world with a new road access,” said André de Castro Pinheiro, the managing director of Robert Hudson. Part of the journey was made by train to highlight the reopening of the railway line, which was destroyed during the war and is being reopened in segments.
Pinheiro said the raid drew attention to the country’s growth and development, particularly its improving infrastructure.
“Angola is not just Luanda, and the indescribable beauty of the places we’re going through is worth being promoted, because its development depends not only on the investment made but also the way it is broadcasted to the country and the world,” said Pinheiro. “This is why we believe the Raid Kwanza Sul is an excellent way to divulge what’s most beautiful in Angola. Ford Ranger is the ideal vehicle to go through these paths, both due to its technical capacity and to its efficient behavior on road and off it.”
The dealership’s desire to support the raid is a clear indication Ford Motor Company has the right partner in Angola says Ezio Tuniz, Sales and Marketing manager, Sub-Saharan Africa. “Not only has the Robert Hudson dealership made a considerable investment in facilities, training and development, it is also involved in humanitarian projects to uplift communities, which are aligned with Ford’s values and expectations.”
