Seven Awards in Two Days: Ranger, EcoSport and Fusion Best in Brazil

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

SAO PAULO – Ford dominated this week at two Brazilian automotive industry awards ceremonies, bringing home seven top awards in two days.

Ford was the big winner at the Association of Brazilian Automotive Journalists Awards (Abiauto) last night, earning five awards for top cars and engines in Brazil.  The all-new EcoSport won Top SUV, the all-new Ranger won Top Pick-up and the Fusion won Top Imported Vehicle.  Ford also won awards for Top Diesel Engine and the EcoBoost 2.0L won Top Engine 1.6L – 2.0L.

The all-new Ranger and all-new EcoSport also won at the 2012 Top Car TV Awards on Tuesday, earning Top Pick-up and Top SUV awards, respectively.

At the Abiauto Awards, the EcoSport beat Audi Q3, Fiat Freemont, Renault Duster, and Volkswagen Tiguan for Top SUV. The Fusion topped the Audi A1, Chevrolet Sonic, Fiat 500, and Volkswagen Jetta for Top Imported Vehicle.  Ranger dominated in the Top Pick-up category, beating out the Chevrolet S10 (Silverado), Fiat Strada, Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Amarok.

The Association of Brazilian Automotive Journalists Awards are one of Brazil’s top auto accolades and chosen by about 70 automotive journalists across the country.

In the 2012 Top Car TV Awards, the New Ranger beat the Chevrolet S10, Fiat Strada, Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Amarok to win the Top Pick-up Award.  These five finalists were chosen from a field of 15 pick-ups nominated for the award.

Competition was a bit tougher in the Top SUV category, but the New EcoSport emerged the winner among the 54 nominees.  The compact SUV beat the Renault Duster, Audi Q3, Fiat Freemont, Range Rover Evoque, and Volkswagen Touareg in the final round.

The Top Car TV Awards are one of Brazil’s top automotive prizes and chosen by about 25 journalists from automotive television programs and web sites across Brazil. The Awards celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.

The New Ranger has been picking up awards across the globe in 2012. It won five awards this month: 2012 Top Commercial Vehicle by AutoData, Pick-up of the Year by Autoesporte magazine, Top Pick-up in the 2013 Car Awards (voted by Car Magazine’s readers), Top Pick-up in the Top Car TV Awards – all in Brazil -- and International Pick-up of the Year in Europe.

The New EcoSport has also won important awards since its Brazilian launch in August.  It was named 2012 Best Buy and Best Buy in the Urban Adventure category by Quatro Rodas magazine, SUV of the Year by Autoesporte magazine, and Top SUV in the Top Car TV Awards.
