BUDAPEST, Hungary – Ford Hungary is ensuring that young people throughout the country enjoy Christmas.
For the eleventh year running, Joulupukki – “the real Santa Claus from Finland” – is visiting Hungary this month for a charity tour. As in the past eight years, he has been using a Ford vehicle during his stay. This year he has been touring the country in a Tourneo Custom minibus loaned by Ford dealer Auto Nexus.
The Joulupukki-mobil, as it is known, has taken Joulupukki to meet several hundred thousand children, handing out gifts and bringing a smile to their faces. The tour is sponsored by Finnagora, the Finnish Embassy, Finnair, and Team Finland.
“We are delighted that with help from Ford Central and Eastern European Sales, Autó Nexus has been able to transport Joulupukki to as many locations in the country as possible, so that he’d be able to bring joy to so many children,” said Gábor Császár, managing director of Autó Nexus.
In addition, Ford Hungary has continued its tradition of supporting the Santa Claus Factory, the largest charity in Europe. As it did last year, Ford Hungary is providing a Transit Custom and Hungarian Ford dealers are acting as collection points for the nationwide donations. Ford Hungary has also donated goods worth $1,500 and delivered them using a new Transit Connect.
The Santa Claus Factory is a local initiative which has been active for nine years with the aim of helping people with large families, or those living in poverty. It collects non-perishable food, sweets, detergents and hygiene products, quality clothing, blankets, toys and books, from all over the country; these are then packaged in boxes by volunteers and delivered to the Hungarian Red Cross for distribution to needy people.
Support for the Factory has also come from another, unusual, source. To celebrate the unveiling of the all-new Mustang, Hungarian fans of the American motoring icon recently baked cakes in the shape of classic Mustang ads. Slices of the cake were then sold in a Cake Bank erected near the Santa Claus Factory and the revenue donated to the charity.
“In spite of the cold, the sight of the Mustang cakes brought a smile to everybody’s faces.” said charity organisor Péter Éskovács.
