Pro Racing Drivers Help Show-off Ford Fiesta’s Best-in-Class Smart and Safety Features

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

Petchaburi, Thailand — Ford Thailand recently joined forces with two of Thailand’s leading race car drivers, Attanut Nairua and Khajonsak Na Songkla, to help promote smart and safe driving techniques ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

Journalists were taken on an exciting test drive of the Ford Fiesta at Kaeng Krachan Circuit in Petchaburi, and were also treated to a hot lap with Attanut and Khajonsak in a modified Fiesta race car.

The test drive fleet included six Ford Fiesta 1.5L Ti-VCT and two Ford Fiesta 1.6L Sport Ultimate, the two newest models in the popular Fiesta series which were both launched earlier this year.

The two-day activity started in Bangkok, where attendees sat behind the wheel of the Fiesta, Ford’s popular small car that offers a class-leading package of design, safety, smart technology and fuel efficiency – and drove it to Krang Krachan Circuit.

At the circuit, the journalists had the opportunity to learn smart and safe driving tips from Attanut and Khajonsak before taking the Fiesta on the track where they had to navigate the vehicles through different driving stations, including a slalom course and curvy road.

In addition to an opportunity to test their driving skills, the journalists had the chance to appreciate the class-leading performance of the Fiesta. The Fiesta features a six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission, as well as a host of smart and safety features, including Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), as well as a connectivity package with voice control paired with Bluetooth.

The Ford Fiesta 1.6L Sport Ultimate is also equipped with several first-in-segment features. These include cruise control, which helps improve fuel economy while proving an extra level of comfort during long and sustained drives, and a seven airbag configuration that includes new side-curtain, thorax, and frontal knee impact airbags, providing even greater protection to both the driver and passengers.

Appreciated by first car buyers and experienced drivers, the Fiesta's rigid body and sleek design has also attracted interest from both auto enthusiasts and the auto racing community.

“The Fiesta’s kinetic design, which contributes to its superior aerodynamics, helps make it a perfect choice as the base vehicle for racing modification. I also appreciate the strong yet light-weight boron steel used in the vehicle’s body, and the stiff suspension system that contributes to the Fiesta’s great handling,” said Khajonsak, who raced in Thailand’s 2012 Pro-Racing Championship and Supercar Thailand Championship in a modified Fiesta.

Ford capped off the test drive activity by offering participants a hot lap with Kajonsak, providing a rare chance for attendees to gain first-hand experience on how to drive like a pro.

Media were offered a chance to experience advanced driving skills in the Fiesta race car.
