Newly-launched Ford Edge honoured with Seven Media Awards in China

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

SHANGHAI, China – The newly-launched Ford Edge SUV is one of the most popular and talked about vehicles in China at the moment.

Within three months of its introduction to the market, seven leading Chinese auto and lifestyle publications and outlets such as Car magazine, Autocar magazine, Auto Sports magazine, Esquire magazine and the China Travel Channel have recognised and honoured the new Edge.

Some of China's most respected auto reporters, bloggers and car enthusiasts declared the Edge to be the “Best Imported Car”, “Most Anticipated New Car Release of 2011”, “Most Recommended SUV of the Year 2010”, “The Best SUV” and “Best Fun to Drive SUV 2011”.

“I’m totally impressed by Ford Edge’s premium features such as SYNC and MyFord Touch. During the test drive, I couldn’t stop playing with both when I was sitting in the passenger seat.” said Zheng Tong, editor of Car magazine China.

“The Edge’s interior is a big improvement from what we have seen in other American SUV models and the instrument panel is so cool. The handling on different road conditions is also great,” said Yong Zhang, editor of Autocar magazine

“Being honoured with so many awards so shortly after the launch is a great achievement.” said J.D Tang, Ford China’s director of Marketing, Sales and Service.

“Ford Edge is truly a fantastic vehicle and we are confident it will be very competitive in its segment.”

“Ford Edge is the first SUV model that we have imported for the Chinese market. The SUV sector is one of the fastest growing vehicle categories in China reporting double digit growth last year – in fact, 60 percent of all imported vehicles in 2010 were SUV models,” Tang added.

Tang said the Edge is an important new vehicle because it extends Ford’s product portfolio in China and strengthens the Ford brand in the world’s biggest auto market.

This Valentine’s Day, to underline the Ford Edge’s image as an ambassador of American automotive style, the company sponsored the International Channel Shanghai's broadcast of the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. The high-profile sponsorship was arranged to generate greater awareness of this hot SUV and the Blue Oval amongst Chinese consumers.

More than 470 units of the imported Ford Edge were sold in its first month on the market in China and 1,627 orders have been put by the dealers across the country.
