BRENTWOOD, England – A special Ford Mustang parade to celebrate the legendary model’s 50th birthday took place in front of a huge crowd at a sunny Silverstone Classic over the weekend.
It’s estimated approximately 175 ‘Pony Cars’ took part in the glittering cavalcade, but that was far from the end of the anniversary celebrations.
In-field displays featuring hundreds of models spanning all 50 years of the Mustang including legendary machines from movies such as Gone in 60 Seconds, American Gangster and Bullitt were on show throughout the weekend, as was the all-new 2015 Mustang.
Out on the track, two thundering Mustang Celebration Races took place, boasting capacity 58-car grids including a record 30 race-prepared Mustangs. The packed line-up also included some illustrious Shelby GT350s as well as former F1 driver and Le Mans winner Jackie Oliver.
Mark Hayden, Anniversary Event Organiser of the Mustang Owners Club GB, said: “We wanted a location for our 50th anniversary that would have appeal for our 1400 members and the Silverstone Classic was the obvious choice because of its timing, central location and wide range of attractions. It also needed to appeal to Ford who are presenting their 2015 Mustang at our celebration. 250 Mustangs were expected over the weekend making it the biggest gathering in Europe.”
