Block Wins Olympus Rally

Monster World Rally Team duo Ken Block/Alex Gelsomino claimed a second straight victory in their Ford Fiesta in Rally America’s Olympus Rally in the United States, just a fortnight after triumphing in Rally Défi in Canada. Block’s dominant performance maintained his 100 per cent success record in North America this year, as he left his pursuers trailing in his dust clouds in the night-time speed tests to win by almost five minutes. Chris Duplessis/Alexander Kihurani wound up first in class and fifth overall in a Fiesta R2, with Edward McNelly/Ole Holter winning the two wheel-drive category in a similar car.

Second for Østberg in France

Driving their Adapta Motorsport-run Ford Fiesta RS WRC, Mads Østberg/Jonas Andersson finished second in the Rallye National Vosgien in France as they prepare for the upcoming Rallye de France, round 11 of the FIA World Rally Championship, on 4 – 7 October.

Grönholm Still on Road to Recovery

Former FIA World Rally Champion Marcus Grönholm will be replaced by international rallycross veteran Andreas Eriksson in round five of the Global Rallycross Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the United States on 29 - 30 September. The Finn is awaiting a full medical review to assess his progress since his accident at X Games 18 in July. Eriksson is CEO of Olsbergs MSE, which runs Grönholm’s Best Buy Mobile Ford Fiesta.

British Formula Ford Title Decider

The MSA British Formula Ford Championship speeds towards its finale at Donington Park this weekend (29 – 30 September), with either season-long pace-setter Antti Buri or man of the moment Eric Lichtenstein set to be crowned the inaugural EcoBoost champion. Whoever prevails will win an expenses-paid trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the USA for test outings in a USF2000 and Star Mazda single-seater, as part of Formula Ford’s new association with the renowned ‘Road to Indy’ programme. JTR Mygale ace Buri requires just a single finish to secure the spoils, but Jamun Racing’s Lichtenstein has not been defeated for seven races. In the older Duratec class, Fabian Welter and Matt Rao will duel it out for the title.

Flying Dutchmen Impress in Focus RS WRC
Jeroen Swaanen/Robin Buysmans and Bernhard ten Brinke/Davy Thierie made it a double podium finish for Ford crews in the Hellendoorn Rally in the Netherlands, as they piloted their Focus RS WRC cars to second and third positions respectively.

Elsewhere, fellow Ford Focus RS WRC cars, Paolo Porro/Paolo Cargnelutti and Corrado Fontana/Nicola Arena finished second and third in the Rally Appennino Reggiano in Portugal.

Back in the UK, Peter Taylor/Andrew Roughead won the Pendragon Stages Rally in a Ford Focus RS WRC, ahead of William Stobart/Andy Richardson in second in a Fiesta RS WRC.

Fiesta STs on the Pace

Marius Aasen/Marlene Engan finished first in class and fifth overall behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta ST in Rally Hedemarken in Norway. Fiesta R2 crews Frank Tore Larsen/Torstein Eriksen, Petter Rolfsen/Ove Johnny Andersen and Steve Røkland/ Kim Hjalmarsen finished second, third and fourth in the R2 class. The results helped to secure Larsen the overall Klasse 1 laurels for the season, ahead of Røkland and Rolfsen.

Meanwhile, Last year’s Fiesta SportTrophy (FST) Finland Champion Jukka Korhonen and co-driver Tapio Suominen defeated 2010 Finnish Junior Rally Champion Andreas Amberg and navigator Matti Heikkinen by less than three seconds to clinch the FST Finland honours in the Kerava Rally. After a gripping duel, the outcome was decided in the last of the 10 stages. Competing behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R2 for the first time, Samuli Vuorisalo / Eetu-Pekka Hellsten rounded out the podium.
