 Motorsport Round-up

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

Solberg’s King of the Castle
Ford World Rally Team star Petter Solberg thrilled almost 40,000 fans with an appearance at CarFest North at Cholmondeley Castle in the UK, held in aid of the BBC Children In Need charity. The Norwegian completed four demonstration runs in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC, giving passenger rides to Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, motorsport TV presenter Louise Goodman and celebrity chef Paul Hollywood. Solberg’s spectacular sideways driving and ‘doughnuts’ proved a big hit with the fans ahead of this weekend’s Rally GB in Wales.

UK Formula Ford Fight Goes to the Wire
Eric Lichtenstein claimed another hat-trick of victories in the Dunlop MSA British Formula Ford Championship in the penultimate meeting at Silverstone. His treble means the title battle will go down to the wire in the finale at Donington Park at the end of September. Lichtenstein is the form driver and the Argentine made it seven wins in a row in his Jamun Racing EcoBoost-powered single-seater. Season-long pace-setter Antti Buri took two second places but damaged his suspension in race three, and he requires just one race finish, to clinch the crown. The third step of the podium was shared between Jake Cook, Julio Moreno and Ryan Cullen. Fabian Welter dominated the Duratec category with three wins to bring his 2012 tally to 10.

Østberg Wins in Norway
Mads Østberg / Jonas Andersson overcame intercom issues to triumph in the all-new Rally Telemark in Norway in an Adapta Motorsport-run Ford Fiesta RS RRC. Thomas Kvam / Stian Johnsen in a Fiesta S2000 and Steve Røkland / Kim Hjalmarsen in a Fiesta R2 won their classes.

Block Monsters Rivals in Canada
Monster World Rally Team pairing Ken Block / Alex Gelsomino dominated Rally Défi, their first Canadian event in four years, to finish more than three minutes ahead of their closest challengers. They won 17 of the 23 stages in their Ford Fiesta H.F.H.V. The American duo mastered roads that alternated between rough and challenging and smooth and fast, with sporadic rainstorms adding another element to the equation. Block will next compete in Rally America’s Rally Olympus in Olympia, Washington.

Victory for Baugnet in Belgium
Xavier Baugnet / Johan Jalet claimed their second consecutive Fiesta SportTrophy (FST) Belgium victory in their Ford Fiesta R2 in the fourth round of the season, the Omloop van Vlaanderen. Slippery asphalt provided the catalyst for a thrilling contest with numerous twists and turns, but Baugnet / Jalet mastered the conditions to triumph and also lifted the laurels in the R2B class. Driving similar cars, Thibault Radoux / Anthony Grégoire and Hugo Arellano / Bernard De Preter completed the FST podium. Herman Kobus / Erik de Wild won the S2000 class and finished fifth overall in a Fiesta S2000, whilst Vincent Duchesne / Renaud Vanmulder gave the new Fiesta R1 its Belgian debut for Team Floral Switzerland and won first time out in the R1 category.

Fehghali Tops Lebanese Podium
Roger Feghali / Joseph Matar won the third round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship, the Rally of Lebanon, in their Ford Fiesta RRC.

Villagra Leads in Argentina
Federico Villagra / Diego Curletto retained their lead in the Argentine Rally Championship after finishing fourth in their Ford Fiesta Kinetic Design Maxi Rally in the Rally of Concepcion del Uruguay. Villagra set a strong pace during the opening leg but power steering issues cost time and places on the second day. VRS Rally team-mate Nicolas Madero led initially but dropped 45 seconds after going off the road at a river crossing. He finished sixth. Villagra leads the series by 10 points.

Dominant Visser Stars in South Africa
Chris Visser / Japie Badenhorst dominated proceedings to tally their second victory of the season for Team Ford Racing in the 4x4 Mega World 400 at Carnival City, the sixth round of South Africa’s Absa Off-Road Championship. After securing pole position, Visser / Badenhorst defied a damaged rear anti-roll bar to lead from start-to-finish in the dry and dusty conditions. They came home more than two-and-a-half minutes ahead of their closest rivals to haul themselves back into title contention following a troubled recent run. Team-mates Lance Woolridge / Ward Huxtable finished third in the sister SP Ford Ranger to help secure Ford the manufacturers’ trophy for the event.

Focus Pips Fiesta
Jean-Marie Cuoq / Marielle Grandemange piloted their Ford Focus RS WRC to second place in Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine in France, ahead of the Fiesta RS WRC of Julien Maurin / Nicolas Klinger in third.  Meanwhile in Slovakia, Radoslaw Typa / Szymon Gospodarczyk won their class in a Ford Fiesta R2 in the Rally Košice.

Stokes Seals Historic Rally Win
David Stokes / Guy Weaver took their second consecutive Tour of Flanders Historic Rally victory by winning Category Two in their Ford Escort Mk1. Philip Squires / Michael Squires prevailed in the 1976-81 Category Three in their Escort Mk2. The outing marked round seven of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

Stenhouse Jnr. Narrows NASCAR Deficit
Defending NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jnr. closed to within one point of the championship lead with second place in his Roush Fenway Racing Ford Mustang in the floodlit Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway. In the headlining Sprint Cup Series at the same track, team-mate Matt Kenseth finished fifth in the Federated Auto Parts 400 in his Ford Fusion.
