CHONGQING, China – When it comes to keeping the streets of Chongqing safe, law enforcement officials have a secret weapon in their arsenal – the 2010 Ford Mondeo.
On February 7, a fleet of 150 Mondeos joined the city's newly inaugurated Traffic and Patrol Police Force. The Ford vehicle was selected by the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau for its great driving dynamics, high safety standards and world-class engineering.
Nigel Harris, general manager of Changan Ford Sales Company, said that the fleet order demonstrated trust in the Ford brand, and confidence in the total capability of the Mondeo.
The powerful presence of the Mondeo fleet starts from the exterior, where Chongqing Traffic and Patrol Police decals are displayed on the body and flashing patrol lights illuminate the roof. On the inside, the new fleet is equipped with a police monitoring system, a laptop shelf in front of the passenger seat, and hooks on which officers can store handcuffs.
Even though it's been on the road for less than one month, the new fleet is already wowing Chongqing citizens. Photos of the fleet have been circulating on the internet, attracting comments such as ''Absorbing!'' and ''It's so cool!'' on the website Xcar.
Mondeo owners are excited as well. Comments posted on web boards indicate that they share an overall sense of pride that the police chose their vehicle to serve the force. Some Mondeo owners are even saying that they now trust their own vehicles more because of this.
The landscape of Chongqing – known locally as the ''City of Mountains'' – presents a unique challenge for police officers, with steep and windy roads, narrow alleys and stop-and-go traffic. With a police force that strives to arrive at crime scenes within three minutes, the powerful Mondeo is undoubtedly the perfect choice.
