TORONTO - Ken Block, professional rally driver, social media sensation and all-around cool guy was heating up the pavement in Toronto recently, helping Ford of Canada launch the all-new Ford Fiesta ST.
The Fiesta ST has finally arrived on Canadian soil. In addition to a precision sport-tuned suspension and improved braking system, Fiesta ST packs a punch under the hood with 197 horsepower and 202 lb-ft. of torque, leaving the competition in the dust.
“I can’t think of a better way to spend a day than behind the wheel of a Fiesta ST and then riding beside Ken Block as he drives his GRC race car,” said Christine Hollander, manager, Product Communications, Ford of Canada. “This is what memories are made of.”
About 30 media, plus a small group of Ford of Canada employees, all had the chance to take a spin the Fiesta ST on a closed course with a professional driver. Then, a select group including media plus one lucky Ford of Canada employee, all chosen by random draw, got the ride of a lifetime strapped into the passenger seat of Block’s rally car.
“It really was a paradoxical experience – something that appears so wild as a spectator is quite controlled from inside the car. The driving skill Ken demonstrates is incredible and the vehicle performs brilliantly,” said Mike Hyland, manager, Labour Affairs, Ford of Canada. “It was a thrilling ride! A big thanks to everyone who made the experience possible.”
It was equally as thrilling for those watching – how often do you get to see Block performing 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, figure-eights and drifting up close? Not only did the invited group enjoy the show, but so did the group of fans that had gathered. Many were dressed in business attire, having walked from their offices, and some drove over an hour to get to the event location after seeing Block’s tweets that morning. Meeting Ken Block might have been the highlight of their year.
