CHENNAI, India — The Parts Supply and Logistics (PS & L) team at Ford India has achieved a fill rate of more than 97 percent over the past six months, ranking it among the best of all Ford markets in Asia Pacific.
The outstanding performance also saw Ford India standout as one of the leaders in the Indian automobile industry. In December, with a 97.9 percent fill rate, Ford India achieved best-in-class performance in the Indian manufacturing sector.
The Fill Rate — an important indicator of supply chain efficiency — is an index of availability of parts at Ford India. Working closely with the suppliers, the team has been able to achieve the near-perfect fill rate while bringing down parts inventory at the same time, creating a win-win situation and improving customer satisfaction.
Recognising the team for this achievement, Joginder Singh, president and managing director, Ford India praised the team at the Business Performance Review meet in early December.
“It is indeed a great achievement by our PS & L team to reach over 97 percent fill rate over the last six months. This has been possible by higher level of engagement with suppliers, senior management review and monitoring of our supply chain practices,” said P.K. Umashankar, vice president, Ford Customer Service Division.
The PS & L team comprising N Vaitheeswaran, Pradeep Kumar N, S Prabhakaran, S Suneesh, N Ananth, M Anand, B Ramkumar and G Ganapathy achieved the feat by increased engagement with suppliers, close tracking of fast-moving parts, past model and critical supplier parts.
“Usually a high fill rate and lower inventory are contradictory to each other. But by working closely with suppliers, adopting best practices and a focused review of critical parts stock, this team achieved a high fill rate combined with a lower inventory, which is a win-win situation,” said Pradeep Kumar, deputy manager, Parts Supply & Logistics. With these measures, the team was able to reduce inventory by as much as US$3.1 million.
