Improved fuel economy and lower emissions for Transit Connect and Tourneo Connect

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

COLOGNE, Germany, July 27, 2010 – Ford Transit Connect and Tourneo Connect customers can now benefit from improved fuel economy and lower emissions by choosing the new 1.8-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine option that exceeds the new Euro Stage 5 (LDT2) emission requirements. The engine will be available in all power levels of the 1.8-litre Duratorq TDCi - 75 PS, 90 PS and 110 PS.

The introduction of Euro Stage 5 Emissions Legislation starts in January 2011 and over time will apply to passenger cars and light duty vehicles in M1, M2, N1 and N2 categories in addition to large goods vehicles (N3 & M3 categories). This legislation sets tighter limits for atmospheric pollutants such as particulates and nitrogen oxide for vehicles sold in EU markets.

The new 1.8-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi Stage 5 engines include a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) with vaporiser technology that collects over 95 per cent of all engine soot emissions. When the DPF is full, the new vaporiser technology heats the DPF to 600 degrees centigrade to turn all the soot into carbon dioxide and water in a process known as a regeneration cycle. The new vaporiser increases the system's efficiency and reduces emissions compared to normal cDPFs.

Additionally, all Stage 5 engines will now have a Variable Nozzle Turbo (VNT) that boosts low end torque, improves drivability and also reduces emissions. Like the 110 PS version, the 75 PS and 90 PS Ford Duratorq TDCi engines will now also come with a revised final drive ratio (changed from 4.06 to 3.8) for enhanced fuel efficiency.

These new Stage 5 changes will provide customers with real benefits in terms of reduced CO2 emissions, better fuel economy and superior drivability.
