BUDAPEST, Hungary – The Ford Central and Eastern European region staged a media drive day with a difference earlier this week, with the 19 automotive and news journalists taking part being given a unique insight into the company's commitment to social responsibility.
The Ford CV Day was an opportunity for the journalists to experience the company's refreshed range of commercial vehicle, including the Fiesta Van, Tourneo Connect, Transit Connect, Transit ECOnetic and the Transit 9-seater bus. However, in addition to their notepads and cameras, the writers were told to bring along boots and gloves and be prepared for some gardening work.
The day started in central Budapest, where the journalists were handed the task of renovating a suburban park in 60 minutes.
Climbing into a range of Ford vehicles loaded with garden tools, plants, refuse bins and other equipment, the group departed for Szentendre, a small town outside Budapest where Ford's Hungarian and EDM (European Direct Markets) offices are located. Their destination was a park nominated for renovation by the local government.
On arrival, the journalists were divided into three teams and set about planting flowers, making paths and collecting fallen leaves. With the work unfinished after an hour, the teams carried on working for a further 30 minutes. The result: 1,200 flowers plants, 6 sq.m of gravel laid and 5 sq.m of leaves collected.
The work completed, the teams reloaded their tools and set off for the drive back to central Budapest.
The event provided an opportunity to experience the impressive cargo carrying capacity of the Ford models, as well as their on-road performance. The journalists also had hands-on experience of a Ford-sponsored community project.
Back in Szentendre, local government officials, including the vice mayor, visited the park and expressed their appreciation of a job well done!
