DEARBORN – Last month, young philanthropist Allyson Ahlstrom hit the road on a nationwide tour in a Ford C-MAX Hybrid with her self-made nonprofit organization, Threads for Teens.
Ahlstrom started Threads for Teens, a charitable organization providing new clothes to underprivileged, impoverished girls, in January 2010. After receiving an inspirational gift for Christmas, Ahlstrom decided it was her turn to give back. She proceeded to contact upwards of 300 companies for monetary and clothing donations.
After receiving her first donation, Ahlstrom was amazed that her idea was actually beginning to form a foundation. Various other companies followed suit, bringing Ahlstrom to a remarkable $82,000 in monetary donations as well as more than $135,000 in clothing donations.
