BRENTWOOD, England - Formula Ford’s exciting 2014 season will get away to a high-speed start this week with an exciting display at the Autosport International racing car show, which opens on Thursday at Birmingham’s NEC.
Visitors to the Ford stand (2720, in Hall 7) will be able to get up close to an EcoBoost-powered Formula Ford, and championship personnel will be on hand to discuss the coming season and to offer car and technical advice to established and prospective competitors and teams.
The Formula Ford chassis will share admiring looks on the Ford stand with an EcoBoost-powered Radical sports car.
“We have a number of teams ready to reveal some of their plans for the coming season of Formula Ford,” said championship manager Sam Roach, of RacingLine. “We are also looking forward to meeting prospective competitors keen to talk about budgets, testing and the exceptional season which lies ahead.”
The Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain will feature 30 races – three 20-minute sprints at each of the season’s 10 BTCC meetings, with live TV coverage on ITV4 in addition to a post-screened highlights show. In addition to this unrivalled racing track time, Formula Ford offers two exclusive timed test sessions before each meeting as well as a 20-minute qualifying session.
The £30,000 cash prize fund is not the only innovation in the pipeline for 2014. This season will also see the introduction of a reverse grid for the second race of each weekend, bringing Formula Ford into line with the sporting regulations of many international single-seater series. Importantly, technical regulations are to remain largely unchanged.
The opening rounds are set for Easter weekend (29/30 March) at Brands Hatch.
