FRANKFURT, Germany – The 64th Frankfurt International Motor Show is the stage for a host of major new vehicle and technology announcements by Ford. The Company’s largest-ever European stand features four global reveals, an array of vehicle and technology introductions and an outdoor technology driving challenge.
The Show marks an important step forward for Ford’s global performance vehicle strategy and ultra-low CO2 ECOnetic technology range, as well as providing an exciting look at the future direction of Ford design and technology.
“Ford is making a strong statement at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with several very exciting global product reveals and our significantly expanded show stand,” says Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe. “From the all-new Focus ST in five-door and Wagon version to the new Fiesta and Focus ECOnetic, we are excited to be showing our best ever vehicle line-up. We are also giving a glimpse into the future of Ford design with the stunning Evos concept.”
Stand highlights:
Focus ST: The covers are finally off the production version of Ford’s first global performance car, the new Focus ST. Building on the DNA of the Sport Technologies badge, the new model combines strong performance, exceptional handling, eye-catching style and everyday refinement. Focus ST will launch around the world in 2012, being sold in over 40 countries spanning six continents.
Ford Evos Concept: The jaw-dropping Ford Evos Concept introduces a new global design direction for Ford and signals and explores key future powertrain and vehicle technologies. Developed in a collaborative process by Ford’s global design team, the new design DNA showcased on the Evos Concept is a key part of the One Ford global product strategy. It provides a framework to guide the creation of new products in Ford’s design studios worldwide and key elements of the concept’s exterior and interior design language will be applied to forthcoming Ford vehicles.
EcoBoost 1-litre: Ford is expanding its range of EcoBoost engines with the addition of an all-new three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine that will become available in Focus, C-MAX and B-MAX next year.Ford will introduce two versions of the engine in Focus in early 2012 – with 10PS and 120PS and five-speed and six-speed manual transmissions respectively. With its 1.0-litre capacity, the three-cylinder EcoBoost engine will be the smallest unit currently produced by Ford. Yet, despite its small proportions, it delivers power and performance to rival a traditional 1.6-litre petrol engine while emitting less than 120g/km CO2 in the Focus.
ECOnetic models: Ford’s green credentials take another step forward with the reveal of the new Focus and Fiesta ECOnetic, boasting leading CO2 emission levels of just 89 g/km and 87 g/km respectively.
Focus ST-R: Ford is giving a European debut to the ultimate performance Focus – the race-tweaked, production-based Focus ST-R. Designed and engineered to race in series all over the globe, this fully-prepared competition car features a powerful 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, FIA regulation roll cage, uprated brakes and track-tuned suspension. Fast, agile and competitive, Focus ST-R is aimed at professionals, amateurs and track-day enthusiasts.
Ranger: Ford is showcasing a production-ready version of the all-new Ranger pick-up ahead of its launch later this year. Completely new from the ground up, it tops a range of pick-ups delivering increased load capability, stronger performance and improved economy while at the same time raising the bar for comfort, technology and safety.
Special edition Fiesta: Two new special edition Fiestas are making their debut on the stand. The Fiesta Sport Special Edition delivers eye-catching sports styling inside and out for a more distinctive and sportier appearance, while a powerful 1.6-litre Duratec Ti-VCT petrol engine option ensures the special edition delivers on the road as well as on looks.
Ka special editions: Ford is adding to the appeal of its iconic Ford Ka with the unveiling of two distinctive new special editions. Ka Grand Prix II takes its inspiration from the world of motorsport with an aggressive carbon-look grille, a carbon-look racing stripe, black alloy wheels and a sporty red and carbon-look interior. MetalKa takes on a more extravert, fashionable look, its black exterior offset with chrome finish details. On the inside, high gloss black inserts are paired with chrome- and aluminium-look details.
2.0-litre EcoBoost gets 6-speed: From late this year, the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine in Mondeo and S-MAX will be able available with a 6-speed manual transmission. This sporty powertrain combination will be available in Titanium and Titanium S series models with both 203 PS and 240 PS power ratings. Production will begin in Genk, Belgium in October, with the combination initially available in Germany and Switzerland only.
Kuga Titanium S: The Ford Kuga is set to extend its rugged yet stylish appeal with the introduction of a new flagship model, the Kuga Titanium S. Designed to stand out from the crowd, it offers new LED daytime running lights, 17-inch design alloy wheels, bigger rear spoiler, new projector style headlights and an uprated interior.
