JAKARTA, Indonesia – Ford Motor Indonesia (FMI) bucked the Indonesia market trend during the third quarter by reporting their best-ever quarterly sales since establishing operations in 2002. Despite the overall market declining by 32 percent, FMI's overall sales rose 9.6 percent during the third quarter versus a year ago, and helped its market share climb nearly a full percentage point.
Overall sales of 2,603 units were bolstered by strong sales of the Ranger pickup – Ford's best selling nameplate in the country – which more than doubled during the third quarter from the same period last year, to a total of 1,611 units.
Ford Everest sales during the third quarter rose more than 57 percent from the second quarter, to 371 units, while Ford Escape sales increased more than 25 percent over the second quarter. And sales of Ford Focus registered an incredible jump to 619 units during the third quarter, driven by a large fleet sale in September to the Indonesian National Police Force.
"Our best-ever quarterly sales performance was driven by strong sales across our Ford product lineup for Indonesia," said Will Angove, president director, FMI, during a media roundtable session in Jakarta on October 20. "We continue to offer best-in-class Ford vehicles and world-class customer service that are being very well received and highly appreciated by Indonesian consumers."
FMI is looking for sales to continue on an upward trend with the launch the new Fiesta next year, and the further expansion this year of its nationwide dealer network, with new locations in Duri Pekanbaru, Surabaya and Bumi Serpong Damai.
"We're confident that customers in Indonesia will continue to be positively swayed to Ford showrooms," said Angove. "Fiesta will transform our business by providing an alternative not only for city car purchasers, but for all consumers in Indonesia."
