SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Ford is educating students about safe driving through its sponsorship of Puerto Rico’s premiere scholarship program, El Nuevo Día Educador (ENDE).
The educational program is run by GFR Media, which publishes the El Nuevo Día daily newspaper and annually recognizes students who excel in academics and are active in community service. The ENDE Awards are the best known scholarship and awards program for high school students in Puerto Rico.
As part of its driving safety campaign, Ford set up a photobooth at the awards ceremony May 14, giving attendees an opportunity to step behind a Ford Fiesta cut out and pose with an oversized cell phone or a sign that proclaimed “Don’t Text and Drive!”
An actual Fiesta was on display, along with a Ford Escape, and information about both vehicles’ safety and technology features was shared.
Nearly 1,800 people attended the awards ceremony at the Performing Arts Center, including Puerto Rico’s secretary of education and the director of the Youth Affairs Office.
Ford has also sponsored driving safety workshops for teachers on the island and is publishing several safety-related editorials in El Nuevo Día.
