COLOGNE, Germany – Ford of Germany has produced its 250,000th award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
The milestone unit rolled off the line at the ultra-modern Cologne engine plant just 26 months after production began.
Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost was voted “International Engine of the Year” in both 2012 and 2013, receiving the highest points score in the award’s 15-year history.
The engine is available in B -MAX, C –MAX/Grand C -MAX, Fiesta, and Focus. It will also be available in next generation Mondeo, Ford Transit Courier, Transit Connect and Tourneo Connect.
Demand for the engine has been so strong, production at the Cologne engine plant was doubled in August 2013 to a maximum of more than 1,000 units a day.
“It makes us very happy that the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is so popular,” said Jürgen Schäfer, head of the engine plant in Cologne. “It is a testament to the good work of our employees - both in production and all connected areas , as well as the engineers who designed the engine.”
