COLOGNE, Germany - The highlight of this year’s UEFA Champions League season is approaching: on Saturday, May 19, FC Bayern Munich and FC Chelsea will play the Final in Munich watched by 60,000 fans in the stadium and millions of TV viewers.
At Ford, celebrating 20 years as official partner of the tournament, preparations for the grand Final are also well under way.
In early April, 60 Mondeos, S-MAX’s and Galaxys carrying special UEFA Champions League signage were driven through Munich to raise awareness for the upcoming Final and Ford’s sponsorship. Twenty additional Ford vehicles were delivered to UEFA officials in support of the UEFA Cup handover on April 20 when reigning champion FC Barcelona handed the trophy to the host city of Munich.
With the Final now fast approaching, Ford of Germany and its dealer partners are accelerating their UEFA Champions League promotion. Some 45 trucks have started to transport of 175 Ford vehicles from Cologne to Munich making quite an unusual sight on the German “autobahn”. The vehicles will be handed over to the UEFA and then used for shuttle services.
Preparations for the final will climax in the “Trophy Tour.” Until May 14 the UEFA Champions League trophy will be driven around Munich in a brand-new Ford B-MAX and showcased at different locations in the city. On the final day of the tour, the trophy will travel around the city in an open-top bus accompanied by Ford B-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy and Transit.
On top of that, Ford is also responsible for identifying the girls and boys who will carry the UEFA Champions League star banner on the field before the Final. Eight Ford dealerships in Germany identified the 30 children in a lottery.
To commemorate the 20-year partnership with the UEFA Champions League and the Final being played in Munich, Ford of Germany launched the exclusive “Champions Edition” earlier this year featuring specially equipped models of the Ka, Fiesta, Focus, C-MAX/Grand C-MAX, Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy.
