DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The 2012 Ford Fiesta, Fords award winning small vehicle, made its highly anticipated launch last week in Taiwan. It is the first vehicle introduced by Ford Lio Ho as part of the company's strategic Golden Five-Year Plan that started this year.

More than 130 Journalists attended the launch, with Fiestas on display in a variety of stunning colours. Ford also took the opportunity to emphasize the five key advantages of the all-new Fiesta for customers: best-in-class fuel efficiency, advanced PowerShift transmission, class leading safety, voice-recognition in-car technology and award winning Kinetic design. There was extensive media coverage of the show, and Ford Lio Ho's Facebook page was seen by hundreds of online viewers on the day of the event.

Targeting a wider customer base, the all-new Fiesta is viewed as a game-changer in Taiwan's small car segment. Manufactured on Ford's global B-car platform, the 2012 Ford Fiesta is powered by 1.6L Ti-VCT engine. When paired with Ford's advanced PowerShift automatic transmission, it can help lower the fuel consumption to 16.2km/L (6.17 L/100km).

''The launch of the new Fiesta represents a milestone in Ford's business in Taiwan and it is also a beginning of our next five-year plan, which will see Ford Lio Ho introduce four new vehicles in the next two years to Taiwan," said Albert Li, president of Ford Lio Ho.

"In this plan, Fiesta is a great vehicle to start with. It boasts class-leading fuel economy, excellent handling, as well as many advanced features that customers want.''

In addition to the five-door hatch, Ford Lio Ho has expanded its Fiesta line-up by adding the four-door sedan model to the range to better cater to the needs of families.

Safety features such as the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Assist (EBA) are also incorporated in to the new Fiesta 1.6L to ensure safety and comfortable ride. In terms of passive safety, the adoption of a high proportion of Boron steel in the vehicle body as well as the availability of five SRS airbags have significantly increased Fiesta's safety ratings in major crash tests.

''Ford Fiesta has earned many awards in the car world. As a small car that stands out for its innovation and exceptional design, it was also recognised by the prestigious 'red dot' award for international product design," said Albert Li.

"I feel confident that the newly-launched Fiesta will help Ford to drive even stronger performance in the small vehicle segment here.''
